WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CHECKED YOUR FIRE EXTINGUISHERS?
Fire extinguishers should be "quick checked" every 30 days.
The owner or occupant of a property shall be responsible for such inspection.
Periodic checks should include:
—no obstruction to access
—safety seals & tamper indicators not broken or missing
—fullness determined by weighing or "hefting"
—examine for obvious physical damage, corrosion, leakage, or clogged
—pressure gauge reading or indicator in the operable range or position
Non-rechargeable extinguishers showing signs of tampered seals, fullness, physical damage, or low gauge reading should be removed from further use, discharged, and destroyed. Non-rechargeable extinguishers should be removed from service at a maximum interval of 12 years from date of manufacture regardless of condition.
Rechargeable extinguishers must be emptied and checked every 6 years. If found ok they will be refilled and approved for use for a further 6 years.
